Marjorie Nunez is the Senior Partner at Nunez Caribbean Law, with offices in Trinidad & Tobago and Jamaica. A highly experienced commercial attorney with over 36 years of legal practice in the Caribbean she is widely recognized for her leadership on high-value transactions and regulatory matters across the region.

Marjorie’s core areas of expertise include mergers and acquisitions, oil and gas, banking, insurance, employment law, data protection, emerging technologies in the region, securities, foreign investment, and general commercial law. She has acted as lead counsel in numerous domestic and cross-border transactions, advising multinational corporations, regional conglomerates, and domestic enterprises.

Well-known for her deep knowledge of the corporate, investment and regulatory climate in Trinidad and Tobago, Marjorie has regularly guided foreign investors through the full transaction lifecycle—from market entry and due diligence to negotiation, structuring, regulatory environment and execution. Her work has earned recognition from Chambers Global for her persuasive advocacy and commercially sound representation in major M&A matters.

Peers describe her as a “deal-closer with a sharp commercial instinct and deep regulatory knowledge.” Clients often cite her ability to “translate Caribbean regulatory nuance into board-room language.”

Marjorie served as Managing Partner of Lex Caribbean from 2009 to 2016, where she led the firm’s Commercial Department across Trinidad and Jamaica. Her international legal experience also includes her tenure at Williams and Harris LLP in New York, where she advised leading financial institutions on public and private financing transactions.

Throughout her career, Marjorie has developed close working relationships with attorneys and law firms across the Caribbean, the United States, the United Kingdom, and Latin America. This extensive professional network enables her to coordinate seamless multi-jurisdictional legal services, positioning the firm as a one-stop solution for clients requiring regional coverage.

Earlier in her career, Marjorie served as State Counsel in the Ministry of Finance, Treasury Solicitor’s Office of Trinidad and Tobago, during a pivotal time in the country’s economic liberalization. In this role, she advised on sovereign finance transactions, multilateral lending agreements, foreign direct investment, and financial sector regulation, while contributing to legislative reform in banking, insurance, and taxation.

She holds a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) from the University of the West Indies and a Legal Education Certificate from the Hugh Wooding Law School. Marjorie is admitted to the Bars of Trinidad and Tobago, Jamaica, and New York.

Some notable transactions over the course of her career to date:

  1. Main Caribbean legal advisor to CL Financial Group of companies with respect to the repayment of bondholders in Jamaica and the sale of Appleton and other alcoholic assets to Campari following bidding rounds and the transfer of non- core assets to special purpose company.
  2. One of the major advisors in the Caribbean to the Regal Forest Group/Unicomer with respect to the regional acquisition of Courts Plc (then in Administration) of Courts companies in 13 jurisdictions.
  3. Acted as Trinidad counsel for Grupo Unicomer for US$350 million senior notes due in 2024 and acted as Trinidad counsel for refinancing in 2023.
  4. Main counsel for Touchstone Exploration Inc. with respect to its acquisitions of oil and gas assets in Trinidad and several financings in Trinidad.
  5. Main counsel for Pan American Insurance in its acquisition of AIG assets in the Caribbean
  6. Main counsel for Talisman in the sale of Trinidad oil assets to CNOOC and Sinopec
  7. Main counsel for Repsol in sale of Trinidad assets to Perenco
  8. Main counsel for Trinpad Group in acquisition of several companies in the stationery and retail sectors in Trinidad.
  9. One of the major advisors for the construction and financing of desalination plant in Trinidad and the drafting of EPC contract.
  10. Regional trademark counsel for registrations for Caribbean and international companies doing business in the region.
  11. Renders advice regularly to major technology, pharmaceutical, oil and gas and oil and gas service companies, foreign banks, insurance and brokerage companies and other domestic, regional and international companies operating in the business space on general commercial law, employment law and the regulatory environment in the region.
